Student innovation meets immersive learning with the Mobile Digital Lab (MDL)
The spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship was on full display at the Louth LEO Student Enterprise Final, held at the Fairways Hotel Dundalk Co .Louth on Thursday 11th March 2026.
Organised by the Local Enterprise Office Louth team the event brought together talented secondary school students from across County Louth to showcase their business ideas, creativity and entrepreneurial skills. The Mobile Digital Lab allow students to experience immersive virtual learning as part of the event.
The county final marks the culmination of months of work by students participating in the Student Enterprise Programme, a nationwide initiative that introduces young people to the fundamentals of starting and running a business. Throughout the programme, students develop ideas, design products, explore marketing strategies and gain hands-on experience in entrepreneurship.
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to discuss their enterprises with the judging panel, explaining their business ideas, business models and the inspiration behind their projects. In addition to presenting their businesses, students also visited the Mobile Digital Lab, where they experienced Virtual Reality using the Explore The Space Shuttle app. The immersive experience allowed students to step inside a virtual space shuttle and explore space technology up close, adding an exciting digital learning element to the event. Together, these activities helped build entrepreneurial skills while also encouraging teamwork, creativity, communication and curiosity about new technologies.
The organisers from Local Enterprise Office Louth praised the dedication and hard work of the students and the teachers who supported them throughout the programme. They highlighted the exceptionally high standard of entries this year and the enthusiasm shown by all participants, noting how opportunities like the Mobile Digital Lab help inspire students to combine innovation, technology and entrepreneurship in their ideas
A big thanks to the Louth LEO team, whose commitment and organisation made the day such a success. Special appreciation was extended to Nikki, Leah, Niall and Niamh for their work in coordinating the MDL deployment (in typical Irish weather conditions) and supporting young entrepreneurs across the county, helping to create an inspiring and memorable experience for all involved.
