The Mobile Digital Lab (MDL) played a key role in supporting a vibrant Health & Wellbeing event held at Garvaghy Church, Banbridge, on Saturday, April 25th, 2026. Delivered in partnership with the Southern Trust and local organiser Gaby Smyth, the event brought together members of the rural community, local businesses and industry representatives for a day focused on promoting healthier and safer lifestyles.
Running from 10am to 4pm, the event welcomed approximately 60 participants to the Mobile Digital Lab showcasing Virtual Reality and AI Glasses providing an innovative and interactive space for digital learning. The MDL’s high-speed broadband and fully equipped digital learning environment ensured a seamless experience for both facilitators and attendees.
Mary Peters, a celebrated Olympic gold medallist and long-standing advocate for community wellbeing, attended the event and showed her support for local initiatives. She kindly took part in a photo opportunity, adding a special highlight to the day and recognising the importance of digital inclusion in rural communities.
The success of the day highlights the growing importance of digital literacy as part of overall health and wellbeing. By bringing innovative learning tools directly into the community, the Mobile Digital Lab continues to break down barriers to access and create meaningful learning experiences in rural areas.
Feedback and insights gathered from attendees will help shape future events, ensuring that the MDL continues to deliver relevant, impactful, and engaging programmes. Thanks to Gaby and all the volunteers of Garvaghy Church which was a strong example of how collaboration, community engagement and digital innovation can come together to create a positive and lasting impact.
