Focus on digital innovation intersecting with sustainable practices. Development programmes on green tech and sustainability. The rationale is the pressing need for community facilities to support the burgeoning population and the requirement for technological infrastructure to aid local business competitiveness. With the increasing relevance of technology in business, the absence of such a hub could precipitate a business exodus and economic downturn. With many residents commuting to Dublin for work, there is a pressing need to establish solutions that can reduce this outbound commuting. This is not only to improve the quality of life for the residents but also to sustain the village's viability and reduce emissions. Implementing alternative working models, such as home working or local working hubs, is essential.
The village of Slane currently lacks sufficient community infrastructure and amenities, as well as access to innovation opportunities and modern technology, which are necessary for fostering a thriving local economy and ensuring the competitive edge of local businesses.
The introduction of a Digital Hub is proposed to address these challenges. This Hub is expected to enhance Slanes digital environment, providing access to advanced technology for the public, local businesses, and community groups. The Hub aims to deliver a variety of initiatives and programmes that will upskill individuals and businesses, attract new business and foreign direct investment (FDI), create jobs, and drive the local economy.
In addition, the Hub will focus on sustainable technology and transparency, reflecting the growing importance of sustainability in business practices. It will offer training, research and development (R&D) opportunities, and a Green Information section to support businesses of all sizes R&D support for adopting sustainable business models through digital technology.
